RICHARD C. "DICK" SHEPARD, 71, of Vinton, Va., died on Tuesday, August 6, 2013. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Lee and Lucille Shepard and sister, Kay Byer. Dick is survived by his wife, Valorie Shepard; son and daughter-in-law James and Karen Shepard; son Daniel Shepard; granddaughter Sonya Shepard; great-granddaughter Wynter Lilly; beloved pets, Goldie, Tigger and Tasha; niece and husband John and Bethann Joyce Hamlin of West, Va.; nephew and wife Fred and Lisa Byer of Pittsburgh, Pa.; and a multitude of friends. He retired from AEP after 35 years of service and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam era. He was an avid golfer and had many golf accomplishments. In 2001, he was inducted into Marshall University Sports Hall of Fame and in 2012, he was inducted into the SCAGA Golf Hall of Fame.
