Wilburn Clyde "W.C." Lee

Wilburn Clyde Lee, Jr. (W.C.) passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 13, 2022 in Huntsville at the age of 78. W.C. was born on July 29,1943, in Florence, Alabama to Wilburn Clyde Lee and Pauline Rice Howard. He moved to Huntsville in 1959 and graduated from Huntsville High School in 1963. He joined the 1169th Group in the Army National Guard in 1963 and served for six years. W.C. and Gail married in 1965 and welcomed two baby boys in the next six years. His sporting goods career included work at Sington’s, Hibbett’s, and Lang’s before opening Lee’s Sporting Goods in 1987. He worked in the sporting goods business for forty-eight years, retiring in 2010.

During his retirement years, W.C. enjoyed golf trips with his buddies, trips with his wife, and watching his grandchildren grow up.

W.C. is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sandra Gail Lee; son, Brent William Lee; son, Brian Matthew Lee, and his wife Karen Folk Lee, and two grandchildren, Watson Matthew Lee and Margaret Elizabeth Lee, all of Huntsville; sister, Connie Lee Burns, and her husband Robert Burns, and four nephews and a niece, all of Levittown, Pennsylvania. Honorary pallbearers will be Randy Raney, Dickie King, Robert Roden, Jackie Dukeminier, Lee Ingram, Bobby Vann, Johnny Jonakin., and Watson Lee.

Visitation will be from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Saturday, July 16, 2022 at Laughlin Service Funeral Home followed by a celebration of life at 3:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, W.C. would prefer donations to Big Oak Ranch, 250 Jake Mintz Road, Gadsden, AL 35905, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas PL, Memphis, TN 38105, or a charity of your choice.
