James Donald "Donnie" Lewter Jr., 64, died peacefully in his home on Wednesday. He graduated from Huntsville High School and attended Auburn University, where he was a member of Kappa Alpha fraternity. Donnie deeply loved his family and being an instrumental part of Huntsville history through his work at Lewter Hardware. Well known by so many, Donnie loved serving the community and helping friends, customers and even strangers in any way he could. He was preceded in death by his wife, Laura Wagner Lewter and son, Ben Howard.

He is survived by his daughter, Jincy Lewter; his parents, Bettie and Donald Lewter; sister, Doran Stamps (Gary); brother Malcom "Mac" Lewter (Barbara); and his special families, his Lewter Hardware family; Elizabeth, Patrick, Luella and Kade Leberte; Elliott, Janelle and Jay Stamps; his chosen son Caleb Hipp and the Hipp family and Jay Laster and the Laster family. A gravesideservice will be at 11:00 am Wednesday, July 27, 2022 at Maple Hill Cemetery.
