Larry Sales

Larry Sales was born in Madison, Alabama on April 21, 1956 to the late I.W. Harris, Sr., and the late Johnnie Mae Sales Harris. Larry spent his formative years in Madison County where he attended New Hope Elementary School.

After moving to Huntsville, he attended Calvary Hill and then Huntsville High School. There he was active in the football program and after graduating he received a football scholarship to Louisville University in Kentucky. Larry was employed with Stanley Construction Company for 33 years, and then with Reeds/Roger Group Construction for 16 years until his health began to fail.

Larry passed on May 8th surrounded by family at his bedside in the UAB Hospital, Birmingham, Alabama. He joined the St. James #2 Cumberland Presbyterian Church in America under the leadership of the late Reverend William L. Robinson. He was a member of the Male Chorus where he led several songs, such as "I Wanna Be Right," "Tell the Angels" and "God Got a Blessing for You."

Larry was preceded in death by his father, I. W. Harris, Sr.; mother Johnnie Mae Sales Harris; brothers: Jerry Sales, Maurice Isadore, and Roy Lee Sales; maternal grandparents Paul Sales, Sr., and Minnie Gordon Sales; paternal grandparents Son Harris and Mattie Little. He leaves to honor his memory a special friend, Melaine Johnson; godson, Jimmy (Carey) Johnson; and two grandchildren, Elijah and Zayda Johnson. He also leaves to cherish his memories two sisters: Edna (Wattie) Humphrey and Mildred H. Tutt, and two brothers: I.W. Harris, Jr., and Toney D. Harris, all of Huntsville, AL; two aunts: Prealie Sales and Bobbie Sykes; two uncles: Billie (Yvonne) Sales and Paul (Marie) Sales; godparents, Elder Charlie and Mother Lelia Crutcher; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends who all held a very special place in his heart.

The funeral service for Mr. Larry Sales b.k.a "Fatboy" will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 18, 2024 at the Saint James Cumberland Presbyterian Church in America (2950 Jeff Road, Harvest, AL 35773) with Reverend Bryon McGlathery officiating. Interment will be in the Meadowlawn Garden of Peace. Mr. Sales will lie in repose one hour prior to funeral time.

Public viewing will be held from 12:00 noon until 6:00 p.m., Friday, May 17, 2024 at the Royal Funeral Home.
