Jane Jones (Teacher-Math/Pierian-Senior Sponsor

Jane Scruggs Jones, 80, of Huntsville, died Thursday, June 17, 2021, after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer. Jane is survived by her son, George M. Jones III (Carole); granddaughter, Laura Plummer (Tommy); and two great-granddaughters, Sadie Plummer and Kennedy Plummer, and two grandsons, Adam Brown and Garrett Brown. She is also survived by a niece, Shannon Campagna (Christopher); two great-nieces, Liza Banks Campagna and Beatrice Campagna; and sister-in-law, Kay Stringer. Jane was preceded in death by her parents, Irma Black Scruggs and William Doyle Scruggs Sr., and her brother, William Doyle Scruggs Jr.

She graduated from the University of Alabama where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta women's fraternity. Jane spent the majority of her career as a math teacher at Huntsville High School. Loved by her students and co-workers, she was the Pierian yearbook sponsor, Delta Tri Sigma sponsor and senior class sponsor. Toward the end of her career, she was an assistant principal at HHS.

Jane loved gardening and volunteering at the Huntsville Botanical Garden as a member of the Garden Guild. She loved her friends and enjoyed participating in antique club, book club and Saturday morning breakfast club. She was a member of First United Methodist Church where she served on the Altar Guild.

A graveside service for family and friends will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Maple Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Coy Hallmark officiating. A Celebration of Life will be held July 1 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Huntsville Botanical Garden. Memorial gifts in lieu of flowers may be made to the Huntsville Botanical Garden, Russell Hill Cancer Foundation and Hudson Alpha Tie the Ribbons Fund.
