Janice Starkey, 74, of Huntsville passed away Saturday. Born in Lewisburg, TN, she earned both a B.S. and a Master’s degree from Middle Tennessee State University. Her loving, kind and giving nature made her a friend to all who knew her. Janice was a beloved teacher who impacted the lives of thousands of students in her 20 years of teaching at Columbia College - Redstone Arsenal and 35 years at Huntsville High School. She loved cats and had a passion for reading and helping others. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Allen Starkey. She is survived by her daughters, Julie Starkey Barnes and Jenny Starkey Black; grandchildren, Beatrice Claire Barnes, John Barrett Barnes, Jayden Robert Black and Autumn Kathryn Black; sisters, Carol Landers and Alice Childs; and brother, Frank Derryberry.

Visitation will be held Friday, December 6, 2019 from 2:00 pm– 3:00 pm at the Church of the Nativity followed by a Celebration of Life at 3:00 pm with The Rev Worth Stuart officiating.
