In Memory

Bettye Pace Poole (Media Specialist)

November 25, 1940 – April 7, 2025

Bettye P. Poole, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, entered eternal rest on April 7, 2025. Born on November 25, 1940, in Chicago, IL she later moved to and grew up in the Huntsville, AL area. There she established her life as a tapestry of faith, family, service, and steadfast love.

She graduated from Council Training High School and later earned both her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Education from Alabama A&M University. Her passion for education led her to a fulfilling career starting as a secretary at Council Training. She moved on to teach mathematics and eventually became a Media Specialist at Huntsville High School, where she retired in 1993.

Faith was the cornerstone of Bettye’s life as she gave her life to Christ at age 11. She served faithfully at Conley Chapel CME Church as secretary and later at the Family Worship Center as a finance committee member and trustee. She was also a proud member of the Delta Omega Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.

Bettye will be remembered for her servant’s heart and quiet strength, rarely saying “no” when someone needed her. She cared for her mother during illness, raised her younger sisters, and served as a caregiver to extended family. She carried the mantle of matriarch with grace, always nurturing others while being a loving mother, grandmother, and wife.

Her signature stash of red and green peppermints or wintergreen lifesavers was a small but sweet reflection of her generous spirit—always ready to share.

She leaves behind her daughter, Anita Kirkman (Edric); her son, Reginald Pace; her grandsons, Lamar Kirkman (Justine) and Alonzo Kirkman (Brianca); and her great-grandson, Brayden Alonzo Lee Kirkman, lovingly known as “The Baby.” She is also survived by her sister, Helen Walker, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends whose lives were better because of her love.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Ruby and Albert Moffett; her husband, Alonzo Pace; and her sister, Willa Moore.

Bettye’s legacy is one of unconditional love, quiet resilience, and unwavering devotion. Her presence will be deeply missed—and forever cherished.

Funeral service for Ms. Bettye Pace Poole will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 19, 2025, at The Fellowship of Faith Church (3703 N Memorial Pkwy, Huntsville, AL 35810) with Rev. Latonia Crutcher officiating.

Ms. Pace Poole will lie in repose one hour prior to the service.

Public viewing will be held from 1:30 p.m. until 5:00 p.m., Friday, April 18, 2025, at Royal Funeral Home. There will be no family hour.

For those looking for alternative ways to express love in lieu of flowers, the family of Bettye P. Poole is asking for donations to be given in her memory to support her churches and favorite charity. She was a member of Conley Chapel CME Church (her home church from childhood) and Family Worship Center. She also supported The American Breast Cancer Foundation. Also, a thank you to The Fellowship of Faith Church. Funds will be given to support these organizations.
