I think she died in 1990. Not sure, but I do know it was over at Dixie College where she was attending college and living at the time. One day alone in her apartment she had an epileptic seizure, and when falling to the ground hit her face on the cabinets edge, which broke her nose. So she was unable to breath and suffocated.
I loved Merrick, she was one of my best friends while I attended Hurricane High. I loved hanging out with Merrick on Friday nights watching dumb movies and talking about what boys were the cutest. I will miss Merrick, but remember her forever. Love you Merrick.
I loved Merrick dearly and always marveled at her sweetness and innocence. I remember her telling me once while we were out on the playground (we were probably in 6th grade) that her dream was to grow her nails so long that they would reach all the way to heaven and poke GOD in the butt so she could bring him down to earth.
I guess she got bored with waiting for her nails to grow that long~ Will always love and remember you Merrick.
I remember in social studies, Coach Edwards kept calling me Merrick because she sat in the same desk I sat in, in the class before me. I always took it as a compliment, though, because she was WAY better behaved than I was I'm sure. She was always a nice, sweet, kind-hearted person.
Merrick was both a good friend and my second cousin. I remember doing some creative story writing together, playing in band together, and singing together in choir and choral groups. We also did some theater together. I also had the opportunity to be in a play with Merrick at Dixie College in the Spring before she died.
Merrick was my best friend in Elementary School. The first entry in my very first journal is about her. I wrote, "Today me and Merrick wrote who we were going to play with. We are going to play with Michelle, Marti, Jenny, Kimberly, Kellie, Malinda & Kathy." That was May 5, 1980. Other journal entries and memories include: playing by the canal, making hollyhock dolls, eating baked apples at her house, being in Girl Scouts together, going door to door selling Girl Scout cookies, and so much more. I had a dance class in college with Merrick right before she died in 1990. She hadn't changed a bit. She was still the friendly, genuine, easygoing girl I had known so well in Elementary School. Thanks for the memories Merrick! I hope my girls have a best friend just like you!
The coolest thing about Merrick was that she was everyone's best friend, and she was the best kind of friend. It was the summer of '90, after our first year of college. There have been many times that someone has told me, "You know, I talked to her just before she died. We got to catch up and I told her how much I missed her since she moved to college in St George." I miss her, too.
