Jennifer “Leigh” Atkinson

Jennifer Leigh Atkinson, managing director of the Fuller Museum in Brockton, Massachusetts died at her home on Friday, October 10 after a long struggle with breast cancer. She was 45 years old. Ms. Atkinson resided in Indianapolis from 1969 to 1980 and was a graduate of Lawrence Central High School in 1976. She majored in art history and painting at Tulane University, graduating in 1980, and went on to earn a graduate degree in art history at Boston University. She joined the staff of the Fuller as curator in 1995 and became its director in 1999. As director she led the Fuller in a successful campaign to become the only broad based craft museum in New England. Before coming to Fuller she worked in local galleries in the Boston area where she curated a number of exhibits. As director of the Fuller she served on many Boston area committees and panels concerning the arts. She is survived by her parents, Robert and Norma Atkinson; a sister, Sara Fiotto; a brother-in-law, and two nieces and nephews, all of whom reside in Hingham, Massachussetts. A memorial fund has been established in her memory and donations may be sent to the Jennifer L. Atkinson Memorial Fund, Fuller Museum of Art, Oak Street, Brockton, MA 02301.
