William 'Mike' Wayne
February 11, 1958 - January 24, 2023
William Michael "Mike" Wayne, 64, of Mooresville, passed from this life in the comfort of his home on Tuesday, January 24, 2023. He was born in Danville, Kentucky, on February 11, 1958, to the late Willie and Joyce (Johnson) Wayne.
Raised by his father and stepmother Phillis in Indianapolis, Mike was blessed to share in the joys and chaos of sharing some of his earliest childhood memories with a large and loving blended family, including seven other siblings. He attended Lawrence Central High School, later entering the construction trade of Masonry local laborer's union for just a few years. In 1981, he shifted paths joining his father into the Painters Union of Allied Trades in Local 47 where his hard work, perseverance, and determination led him to customize a comfortable empire taking on the title of a Journeyman Painter. A hardworking man, he often worked long hours, and side jobs were always part of his routine. Employed with several companies throughout the years, lastly for Quality Interiors, Mike deservingly retired from the Union in 2019.
In the eyes of his children, Mike never slept. An early riser, he was the first to make the coffee and greeted everyone with a smile. Never missing his children's or grandchildren's sporting activities and always enjoying sledding, amusement parks, family events and continuously having a good time with everyone in his family. Staying involved in their lives, he was best of friends with each one.
Meeting the love of his life when she joined the union, Mike and Pam were deeply connected at first sight. The newly found duo vowed their unending love on June 29, 2019, buying their first home at Lake Bodona, where a good time was had by all who came to visit. As Mike's health began to decline, the journey was made to Etowah, TN to be near his daughter for his final days.
Cherishing every moment and memory, Mike was a light that didn't fade out. He followed his passion, stood for the things that he valued, and knew how to cut loose and have fun too. An avid Indianapolis Colts Fan, he was generous to participated in the Big Blue Blood Drives whenever he could. Some of his greatest joys were purely found in fishing, racing, cooking, gardening, or just sharing the air with his better half and seeing the world through the eyes of his children and grandchildren. It was in the fruits of his own labor, that contentment and happiness were achieved. Not one to complain or speak ill about people, he kept his focus dialed in to the simplicity and consistency of celebrating the good and the bad. His life was lived with purpose and his legacy will live on in the spirit of those in which he loved.
