Ron and I met in grade school band--he played trumpet and I played alto sax.  We were in Junior High Jazz Band and became friends--he came from a fairly large farming family and was the middle sibling personified--he marched to his own drummer, had a natural affinity for music and acting, was not athletic, had huge feet so flat they were almost rocking chair rockers, and was the school celebrity the fall of  '68 when he refused to trim his hair above his shirt collar, and was suspended from school.  His parents wisely supported him, as did the student body.  The Stone Family Pond was the scene of several night swims, mostly au naturel. . .  Ron and I sang in a folk group together our senior year with friends Chris Cobb, Penny Downey, Rick Koch, and Mark Cornish.  Ron had talent he never fully realized--hope you're still singing Miss Beck's contest piece, "The Drinking Song" Ron.  Gone too soon . . .

In high school, I mentioned to Ron that he was knock-kneed and I was bow-legged. He said we could stand side-by-side and spell OX. We walked to the end of the hall and stood beside each other for awhile spelling OX with our legs. He had such a quick sense of humor. Anyone else would punched me in the nose :)

Mary, that was such a great note about Ron.  I will never forget all those rehearsals at the Great Hall at Simpson, Ron's rendition of "My Dog Blue", his sense of humor.  He was also one of the first people I ever got into philosophical discussions about life and where our place is in the universe.  What a unique boy.  So sad he died so young.  We all had so much fun singing and talking and growing up!!

I remember walking through the woods at Aquabi, holding hands with Ron and talking. . .just talking. He was special and had a beautiful baritone voice. Miss him. Yup, that folk group was fun, Penny & Mary!
