US1M Points Races

The points races for 2012 have been completed. The finishes couldn't have been much closer. One point separated first and second while two points separated second and third. Congratualtions to the winners.

Points Race 1, February 11

We had a good showing of boats, with breezy conditions. The beat to the finish was challenging and allowed the opportunity to come from behind and steal a win. Good sportsmanship made for a very enjoyable regatta.

We did not have a Race Director, so we all took turns running one race until Erwin’s boat broke down, he ran the remainder of the races. It was a good team effort.

Bragging rights for the day go to Rich Frauenzimmer, Bob "Shoe" Schumacher and Don Frakes. Results for the entire field are shown below:

Points Race 2, April 21

Ten skippers competed today. Reading the wind to the first mark was particularly challenging. Made all the more so because the start line was changed to a throw in close to shore and mark number 4. Only five entrants completed all 12 races. Al managed to not finish a couple times by getting hung up on mark 5. Needless to say he gave it a very wide berth thereafter.

Bragging rights for the day go to Shoe, Erwin and Bert. Erwin and Bert were tied in points but Erwin had more first place finishes. Results for the entire field are shown below:

Points Race 3, June 9

Nine competitors. Course and conditions were very similar to what we had for the second points race.

Thanks to John Cameron for conducting today's event.

Bragging rights for the day go to Shoe, Erwin and Don.  Results for the entire field are shown below:

Points Race 4, August 11

Seven skippers participated today but for a variety of resaons there were never more than six boats on the water. Congratulations to Don, Erwin and Burt for their first, second and third place finsihes.

At one time or another Pete, John and I served as RD.

Points Race 5, October 13

Eight skippers competed in the final US1M points race for 2012. Wildly varying wind conditions made for some spirited racing. Once again we used a start line formed by mark 4 and a throw in making the windward leg to the first mark a long one. The chicane formed by the normal start/finish marks created an addtional challenge. Bragging rights for the day went to Larry Grant, Paul Desatoff and Don Frakes.

John Cameron served as RD.
