He always demonstrated and displayed kindness, concern and care for each and every one of his football players. He had confidence in us, he inspired us, he ran us, and he kicked our butts! He taught us big life lessons, particularly this one - that tenacity is the key to success; and, if at first you don't succeed - do something different - because what you did previously didn't work!
Finally, he believed in me and helped me form a life perspective of never giving up...he was the John Paul Jones of the 69-70 Irving High School Football Team. Although he may not have been the first to say "I have not yet begun to fight", he surely helped embed this tough-minded American philospophy into me which served me well throughout my 30 year Navy career.
Those of us fortunate to be coached by Ronnie Bell owe him a huge debt of gratitude for teaching us how to approach life in a most ambitious and positive way! I,for one, will always be grateful to him for that. He was a great coach!
