Say, could anyone who knew Sandra, please take a look in the obits in her local newspaper? If you find something, then please transfer it here either via cut and paste, or by a link. I for one would like to know what our classmate's life became after 1965. I did a quick look on line, but I assumed she was still somewhere in NY State. The search revealed nothing, but it may only search major newspapers.
Saddened by the passing of our classmate....
There was a great line spoken by Bruce Dern in a movie called "Northern Borders" which went something like--- The older you get... the more goodbyes you have to say
Sandy was my cousin; so, I knew her from birth. Her mother and my mother was cousins who were very close as young people in NYC. My family visited her family in Islip in 1956 and bought a house two doors away. So from the age of nine, we grew up together on Spruce Street. Sandy married Don Carine in 1971 and they had two daughters, Erin and Amy. Her husband, Don, predeceased her in 2010. Sandy remained in the Islip area throughout the years. She was a retiree of New York State--worked at the large court house in Central Islip.
My dad died in 1964 and Sandy's mom, Margie, died years later. My mom and Sandy's dad, Mike, married in 1971--making the seven cousins step-siblings! Our parents were married for 23 years until my mom's death in 1994. So, Sandy and I always joked wondering whether we were still sisters or just cousins! I'm glad I got to visit with Sandy (Sissy to me) a number of times while she was ill. She will be missed.
So sorry to hear of Sandra's passing. Further reason for us not to wait too long to get together again and for those who couldn't join us last fall to do so.
