Dorothy Slater (Teacher)

Dorothy Whitten Slater, born May 13, 1912 passed peacefully Sunday evening September 17, 2006. A longtime resident of Jacksonville, Mrs. Slater held a Master's Degree from the University of Florida. For 39 years she taught both DCT and CBE at Dupont and Wolfson High Schools. After retiring from teaching, she volunteered for 18 1/2 years with the Auxiliary at Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Slater is survived by many students and friends that she considered family. Many of her students kept in close contact including the following Honorary Pallbearers, Alfred Bass, Joe Gasquz, Mack McCray, Pete McKinley, Richard Mette, Raymond Townsend, Joe Walsh, and Bert Wasmund. Graveside services will be held at Oaklawn Cemetery, 4801 San Jose Blvd., Jacksonville, On Thursday, September 21, 2006 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given in her memory to the Jacksonville Humane Society, 8464 Beach Blvd. Jacksonville, FL 32216.
