Deborah came over with the other Douglas Anderson students when DA was closed. As Student Body President I was very activley involved in their assimilation into the Wolfson family. Deborah was the Student Body President at DA. As you will all recall, this was a time of great tension (in many ways) with anything that involved racial issues. MLK had been asassinated, RFK too. Riots in LA, Detroit and many other places. I was cautioned by various faculty members on my efforts to welcome the DA kids. I worked with Deborah very closley on making the transition as smooth as possible. She was a young woman with much style and grace. I think you will agree that we all did a pretty good job as part of the Class of 69. Although I did not see Deborah after we graduated, I often thought of her, especially as I leafed through the senior yearbook and saw her picture.

The thing that made me most proud of my school and my classmates was the way we all handled welcoming the DA kids. While I am sure it wasn't perfect, I don't know of anything that was not considered normal between kids of that age. It was due to the class and spirit of our students and to the special grace of people like Deborah Hills. I hope whatever this life brought her before it was over was good.
