PILLSBURY Kenneth Earl Pillsbury, 64, loving and generous husband, father, grandfather, and good friend, passed away on December 11, 2008. Survivors include Ken's wife of 43 years, the former Carolyn Hummel; three sons, Sean, Christopher (Angie), and George; one daughter, Leigh Ann; six grandsons, Brandon, Parker, Will, Turner, Eli, and Colin. He is also survived by his sister, Miriam Copeland (John), and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Ken felt great pride and love for his family and his Pillsbury heritage. His wife and children remember Ken as a mentor, protector and their biggest fan. He was a Christian who never met a stranger and gave generously of his time, talents, and money. They also remember him as a big cuddly teddy bear, a connoisseur of ice cream, and a huge Georgia Bulldog fan. Kenneth was born on July 3, 1944 in Jacksonville, FL. He attended Lola M. Culver Elementary School, Kirby Smith Junior High School, and he graduated from Terry Parker High School in 1962. A University of Georgia football player, undergraduate, and graduate student, Ken earned a bachelor's degree in criminal justice in 1966, and a master's degree in public administration in 1968. He was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. Ken served as an Army captain during the Vietnam War. He developed and ran UNDO (United Narcotics Detail Operations) in Birmingham, AL, and served as terminal manager for Roadway Express Trucking Company in La Grange, GA and Jacksonville. After that, he bought a ServPro franchise in Jacksonville and also served as director of ServPro franchises for Florida and Georgia, until he developed his own cleaning business, Pillsbury Cleaning and Restoration. Community activities included the Shriners, Jacksonville Barracuda supporter, and the Jacksonville Bulldog Club. He was a member of Ft. Caroline Presbyterian Church and Fleming Island Presbyterian Church. A memorial service will be held on Monday, December 15, at 2 pm, Jacksonville Memory Gardens, 111 Blanding Blvd., Orange Park, FL 32073. Dr. Herbert Meza and Dr. Jim Weldon will officiate.
