Ann Walton (Passavanti)

Obituary

1944 - 2022

Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to many, Ann Walton Passavanti passed away peacefully on Monday, September 5, 2022. She was a loyal wife, mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, and sister-in-law. Ann, like her brothers Doug and Stephen, was born in Wilmington, NC, beginning her life in June 1944. Her father, Ralph Walton, Senior, moved the family to Jacksonville, Florida, in 1960 because of CSX (Atlantic Coast Line Railroad) being relocated. Ann graduated from Terry Parker High School (1962) and attended the University of Florida. Ann had a long career with CSX, through which she made many friends for life and enjoyed participating in many social events.

Ann, like all her family, was a member of Arlington United Methodist Church. She met her husband, Don, there and they were married in the chapel on August 11, 1979.

After attending the University of Florida, Ann met and married Philip James Rosenberger, Junior, and they had two children, Philip James (III) and Margaret Lee.

Ann loved to travel and enjoyed trips to New England, especially staying at the Trapp Family Lodge in Stowe, Vermont (where she cross-country skied in 15 inches of snow), New York, California, Lake Tahoe, the UK, Germany, Holland, and Belgium. Ann enjoyed vacation trips with her granddaughters – whom she loved very dearly – especially to Disney, along with visiting western North Carolina, especially her parents’ summer home in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Ann enjoyed visiting her daughter as well as grandchildren with Don in Atlanta, Georgia, over many years. But the best trip she ever had was visiting Australia in 2016. Ann especially enjoyed her trips to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, where she loved just walking on the beautiful beach looking for shells.

Ann loved animals and nature, and she sought to help look after both. Ann especially loved cats, who added a richness to family life that she greatly appreciated; a love that she shared with her husband, children and granddaughters. Ann enjoyed music (playing piano) and was fond of Barry Manilow and Carol King’s Tapestry album. Ann was also an avid reader and enjoyed historical dramas and murder mysteries, which she shared with her children, granddaughters, and daughter-in-law.

Ann was survived by her husband of more than 43 years, Don, and is survived by her daughter Margaret Lee Norcott (Rosenberger), son Dr. Philip James (PJ) Rosenberger III (Uta) of Australia, granddaughters – Amelia, Noella Norcott and Lina Margaret Rosenberger, and sister-in-law Linda Rose Walton. Ann was predeceased by her parents, Ralph (2008) and Margaret (2012) Walton, her brothers Stephen Elliot Walton (1973) and Ralph Douglas (Doug) Walton, Jr., in 2020.

Ann is loved and will be missed dearly by all her immediate family, close cousins and dear friends. May she Rest In Peace and be surround by all her loved ones, and pets, in heaven.

In lieu of flowers, we ask that a donation be made to one of the following charities that represent Ann’s passions in life – The Jacksonville Humane Society, Alzheimer's Association, North Florida Land Trust, Timucuan Parks Foundation – or to a charity of your choice in Ann’s name.

The date of the memorial service is November 19, 2022, 10:30am at Arlington United Methodist Church, Jacksonville, Florida.
