Kinzie Eddy Gibbs, II “Butch”, 70, of Canton passed away on Sunday, August 31, 2014.
He was born in Beaumont, TX, on November 13, 1943, to the late Kinzie and Ura Gibbs. Kinzie graduated from Jasper High School and attended Stephen F. Austin University. He married Kay Dean on August 29, 1964, celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary this year.
Kinzie served in the United States Army, during Vietnam as a soloist in the 60th Army band. Kinzie spent most of his life as a salesman extraordinaire.
Kinzie was a devoted husband, father and beloved brother and uncle. His passion for life spread wherever he went bringing his gift of music to all who knew him. He always had a song to sing and a tune to play. His lighthearted and playful spirit will always reside in the hearts of those he loved. His family is comforted by knowing that when the gates of Heaven opened and the trumpets began to play he knew he was home.
Kinzie is survived by his wife, Kay Gibbs; brother, Walter Gibbs and wife Jeannie; sisters Anna Oliver and husband Gene and Lana Hill and husband Mark; brothers-in-law Ed Dean and wife Gloria and Randy Dean and wife Debbie; and six nephews and 5 nieces; and 7 great nieces and 2 great nephews.
A viewing will be held at Stringer Griffin funeral home at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, September 3rd immediately followed by the service at 2 p.m. and burial at Jasper City Cemetery.

Kinzie was one who sincerely brought a smile to all when he entered a room! He will always be remembered for his talent with the trumpet, sense of humor, & genuine love for all. He will surely be missed and we'll cherish the many memories!

It is definitely our loss but Heaven's gift to have Kinzie home playing his trumpet and dancing away. He was such a beautiful soul who I've loved as a dear friend for so many, many years. The memories will forever be in my heart of all the crazy things we did growing up. Now may he rest in peace in his whole body and know how much he is loved! Kay and I have been friends since we were like 4 years old and still today are the best of friends. I am blessed that I can be there for her in this time of sadness. As all of us will be!

I'll never forget the first time I ever saw him. Mom, Dad and I were at a band concert in the gymnasium. Grady Kyle was the director. I can't put the exact year on it, but I remember this little kid, not much bigger than me at the time, getting up in front of the high school band, hanging on the end of a trumpet that seemed twice his size and blowing the hell out of "Bugle Call Rag."
That was the beginning of my fascination for the trumpet.
The highlight of my high school days was setting next to Kinzie in the band my Sophomore year. What a talent! Charles Manning was the band director and our warm up piece for band contest that year was "Barnum and Bailey's Favorite." Richard King, who was setting in the audience, came up after we played and said something like: "You guys blew the auditorium doors wide open on the down beat of that piece."
Of all of the trumpet players I've know and played with over the years. Kinzie was one of, if not, the best!

Kinzie was one of those special people who was a friend to all, and I don't remember anyone back in our school days that brought more smiles to each of us. It was a pleasure knowing him. My sympathies and prayers for the comfort and peace that surpasses understanding to Kay, Bud, Lana, Anna and all who are deeply touched by this tragic loss.

My first memory of Kinzie was a few days after transfering to Jasper half way through my sothemore year.He came into the band hall with a pasionate abandon and a wild unadulterated zest for life.Other than that just another nice guy.I thought secretely ,he gets away with that.I still remember him all but bouncing off the walls.
