
HASTY, Charles
Age 70, died at home after a long illness on December 2, 2012. Chuck was born in Manistee on July 23, 1942. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy on the USS Intrepid. After the military, Chuck worked for Keene (Baldwin-Hill), followed by many years in the insurance business as an adjuster. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wellington and Ruth (Fenski) Hasty and his brother, Jimmy Hasty. Chuck is survived by his wife of 31 years, Suzanne Lavender; daughters, Dalee Camp and Meredith (Matthew) Carter; grandchildren, Vanessa Brewer, Madison and Benjamin Carter. He is also survived by his sisters, Jean (Tom Bussies) Hasty and Claudia (Mike) McKinney. Charles was the first person in Michigan to be adopted as an adult and was a distant relative of Abraham Lincoln. Charlie was known for his love of Mickey Mouse, The Three Stooges, horror movies and cars. A gathering to celebrate his life will be held on Friday December 7, 2012 from 3-5 PM in the club house of Fountain Springs, 1410 S. 9th St., Kalamazoo, MI 49009. Memorial contributions in Chuck's memory may be given to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan - Paw Paw Office, 801 Hazen St., Ste. A, Paw Paw, MI 49079.
