Aivars Kinens, "Ike" age 71 of Tadaiku Pagasts, Latvia, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus on April 8, 2013. Aivars was preceded in death by his parents Janis and Erna. He was a 65 year resident of Kalamazoo County and graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School class of 1962. He worked at National Water Lift for 38 years. After his retirement, he enjoyed getting the National Water Lift gang together at the Old Country Buffet a few times a year. We can't thank the Old Country Buffet enough for their support to the Water Lift Alumni. From 1964 to 1966, Aivars was in the United States Army where he served in the Vietnam War and received an honorable discharge. He was always proud of his service to our nation and he was a life time member of the VFW. Aivars enjoyed coin collecting and was an avid fisherman. He loved fishing with his friend "Norm" and for 17 years he always looked forward to his annual fishing trips to Canada with the guys. Aivars loved to travel and always enjoyed his trips to Arizona to visit his kids. He is survived by his loving spouse Vicki Kinens; his brother Janis (Aina) Kinens; and furry companion Tinkerbell. He is also survived by his children Elizabeth (Bryan) Synder, Jennifer (Larry) Shinn, Kristafer (Susan) Kinens. Grandchildren Kylynn (Josh), Lacey (Richie), Brandon, Reece, Carissa, Lauren, Stephen, Ryan and Kaitlynn. Great Grandchildren Shaun and Zane. He is further survived by his nieces Sasha (Mason) Sullivan, Krista, Tija, Anna, Grieta Kinens and many honorary grandchildren. The Service celebrating the life of Aivars Kinens will be held on Monday June, 24, 2013 at the Latvian Evangelical Lutheran United Church on 122 Cherry Hill Street, Kalamazoo, MI 49006. We will be gathering from 10am to 11am with service at 11am and luncheon to follow. If he touched your life, please join us to celebrate his!
