Jack Marion

Jack Charles Marion - was a dedicated father, skilled worker and all around true gentleman. He was born February 19, 1943 in Kalamazoo, MI to Charles ``Pete'' & Betty Tolmacs Marion. Jack grew up in the Kalamazoo area and graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School in 1961. After high school, Jack entered the Navy, where he worked as a dental technician. While away, Jack was briefly married. After having left the service in 1967 he began dating a high school friend, Karen Coy. They were married on March 8, 1968. Shortly thereafter, Jack began many years working at General Motors in production and then started his apprenticeship as a tool and die maker, for which he later received his journeyman card. After early retirement in 1993, he started working at Bentler Industries, where he worked until 1999. At both com-panies Jack received numerous awards for his dedication to improving quality at the companies. In his spare time, Jack loved to play golf, cards, and watch football, hockey, golf and tennis on his big screen t.v. He was well known as a jack of all trades-master of most. Jack's family includes his wife of 34 years, Karen Marion, his children: Jack Jr. (Vicki) and Jeff, both of FL; Brett (Allison) of Ferndale and Tara of Portage; Siblings: Marcia Haist, William Marion, Phil (Karen) Coy, all of Kalamazoo; Paul Haist of Galesburg, and Michael (Pat) of Portage; Father-in-law Bernard Coy of Kalamazoo, and several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. Surrounded by his family, Jack died May 10, 2002 at Rose Arbor Hospice after a long battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Artie Coy, in 1990. Friends may visit with the family on Monday, May 13, 2002, at the Rupert, Durham, Marshall, & Gren Funeral Home, Portage Chapel, from 2-4 & 6-8 pm. The Celebration of Life Service will be held at the Kalamazoo Valley Family Church on Tuesday, May 14, at 11 am with burial following at Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery.
