Michael Stuart

Retired Detective Michael F. Stuart was born April 29, 1950 to Kenneth and Geraldine Stuart who pre deceased him in death. Retired Detective Stuart died March 29, 2017. 
Detective Stuart retired from the Kansas City Missouri Police Department on October 3, 2013. He began his career in law enforcement in June of 1967, working the 3-11 shift his senior year of high school as a non sworn records clerk.  He was accepted to the regional police academy in 1971 and became a sworn officer on May 1, 1971. He held various assignments in Patrol, Homicide, Property Crimes, Crime Scene, TAC, Pawn Shop, Metro Meth Unit and Property and Evidence. Detective Stuart was involved in rescue and recovery of victims of the Hyatt Regency collapse, the Plaza Flood, the Coates House Fire and the Investigation surrounding the Serial killer Bob Berdella. Detective Stuart also served as President of the Fraternal Order of Police. Mike proudly served the citizens of Kansas City, receiving many commendations and awards through his career. 
Mike had a younger brother, Daniel who died at birth, and two step brothers Kenneth Stuart and Patrick Stuart who also pre deceased him.
Retired Detective Stuart is survived by his wife of nearly 30 years, Retired Supervisor Barbara Lynne Stuart of Kansas City, Missouri; sons Kevin Michael Stuart, wife Jessica of Phoenix, AZ and Daniel Joseph Stuart, wife Erin of Phoenix, AZ; grandchildren Gage Michael Stuart, Jackson Brady Stuart and McKenna Lynn Stuart. Detective Stuart is survived by brothers and sisters in law, many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and great great nieces and great great nephews, and many friends.
Mike was diagnosed with cancer in early 2017, and entered Hospice treatment at home on March 25, 2017.  The house was filled with family, friends and love for four days.  Mike was never in pain, nor needed any drugs and knew what was going on until he put his head down and took his last breath a little after midnight on March 29, 2017. 
At his request, a Celebration of Life was held on June 24, 2017 at Coronation Our Lady Catholic Church, with BBQ and beer for family, co-workers and friends.  Mike is missed every minute of every day.
