Mark had been hospitalized for several days with blood clots in his legs. Several of us from class of '72, who had been like sisters to him, went to the hospital on Memorial Day to visit. We went to encourage him and cheer him up, but that really wasn't necessary. He was upbeat and kept us laughing for most of the time we were there. We talked about and remembered some of the fun, crazy, even stupid things we'd all done through the years. I had hardly gotten home from the hospital when I received the call that Mark had passed away. I wouldn't take anything for that afternoon spent together.
Mark served for 28 years as an officer with the Mesquite Police Department. After retiring, he spent a lot of time working on projects at his church, where he was greatly loved and valued. He also loved spending time with his granddaughter, Paisley.
Mark left a legacy of love, compassion and faithfulness. His love and dedication to his wife Kathy, son Matthew, daughter Sarah and granddaughter Paisley were eclipsed only by his love for Jesus Christ, who he loved and served with all of his big heart.
I loved Mark, as friend and brother since I lived a block over from him on Royal Drive. In '71 we lost touch until the 10 year reunion and afterwards we kept in touch by phone or email. He loved his church, family and friends. He never had a mean bone in his body and really cared about everyone regardless if you were in the in-crowd or geek. The Lord put him on my mind the week before he passed away and I'm so grateful that I listened to His still small voice and went to visit Mark. We had a very good visit at his and Kathy's home and that was the last time I got to speak to or visit with my friend.
Mark, you are so loved and missed. Just your words of encouragement and the happiness in your voice helped me to make it one more day out here. When I had something dangerous ahead or just tough times you always would somehow know and I get that call & I knew someone was praying for my safety. I'm so glad I had the opportunity to know you. I miss your calls and emails and I hope that some day we will have that great reunion in heaven because I know you are there. I will always love and miss you.
