FYI. I was with Robert (Bobby) the night he got killed. I have never forgotten that night, or him. He was a good friend. We were walking home from the Layton theatre and he got hit by a drunk driver on Fort Lane. Joe Henley was right next to him and had the driver been a few inches to the right would have got them both. Also, had the driver been a few minutes earlier, he could have gotten several more. All of us but Robert and Joe had just split up, we had just turned and were walking down Lindsay St. when we heard the impact. We thought they had thrown a big snowball at the car as the driver did not slam on his brakes, he just slowed to a stop. We didn't know until the next morning. If you are superstitious, it was on Friday the 13th, November 1964. However, when you consider these details, its amazing how much worse this could have been. What a difference a few minutes and a few inches can make! Bobby was his parents only son, and they only had one other child, Sharon, his sister one year younger. His parents were very nice people. A very good family, such a tragedy for them to have had to deal with. I don't know if Joe Henley is still alive but I believe the others with me that night are all gone.
Thank you Mike and Miguel for sharing your memories of Robert. I believe this one incident was something we all were hit hard with, as junior high friends. It seemed impossible to think that someone so young was suddenly gone, and in such a tragic way. In the passing years, we had many more classmates who were taken from us. Again, thank you for your memory.
