How sad! Does anyone have any details?

Tina, I remember vaguely reading an article about John in 1977 in the Washington Post.   If I recall correctly, he was a pedestrian hit by a car not too far from his home in Kensington.  He lived not too far off Plyers Mill Road near Oakland Terrace E. S.  I don't remember if there were any special circumstances (hit-and-run, drunk driver, etc.), but for it to be in the Post, it's always a possibility.  Can anyone else verify, fill in the blanks?

I found this in the Washington Post archives:

John L. Gates, Star Athlete At Einstein High, in Mishap

The Washington Post (1974-Current file) - Washington, D.C.
Date: Dec 4, 1977
Start Page: 42
Pages: 1
Section: METRO Local News/Obituaries/Classified

John Leslie Gates, 22, a former star athlete at Albert Einstein High School in Kensington, was killed Wednesday when he was struck by a vehicle while walking beside a road in Centreville on the Eastern Shore of Maryland.

This is so sad. I never knew. Thank you both for responding. I also know Party Gorman passed away but there is nothing on the memory page. ?
