Tina, I remember vaguely reading an article about John in 1977 in the Washington Post. If I recall correctly, he was a pedestrian hit by a car not too far from his home in Kensington. He lived not too far off Plyers Mill Road near Oakland Terrace E. S. I don't remember if there were any special circumstances (hit-and-run, drunk driver, etc.), but for it to be in the Post, it's always a possibility. Can anyone else verify, fill in the blanks?

John Leslie Gates, 22, a former star athlete at Albert Einstein High School in Kensington, was killed Wednesday when he was struck by a vehicle while walking beside a road in Centreville on the Eastern Shore of Maryland.
