COM and compliance with voter initiative Measure C

Friends of Kentfield,

The appearance of the New Fine Arts building in COM's front yard made it clear to Kentfield and surrounding communities that something (measure C requirements, ie. fit within the character of the area) had drastically taken the COM of the prescribed course, as mandated by the measure. We quickly discovered that a similar misdirected theme was plotted for the new Gateway Project posted on our home page. It's critically important that a contractually obligated community partnership (proposed at Trustee meeting on Feb. 23) with the COM's administration, BD. of Trustees, Swinerton, and future architects be established to ensure that COM complies with Measure C and so that overbuilt, out of character, monstrosities do not become the order of the day/future. It's not just Kentfield which has a vested interest in what occurs with the COM but all the surrounding communities will be negatively impacted unless we elect to engage ourselves for the community good. Complacency will result in more of what has appeared in COM's front yard but next it will be on College and Sir Francis Drake. Spread the word not just to your Kentfield neighbor but all of COM's surrounding communities. As a sidebar, our friends and neighbors of COM's Indian Valley Campus have experienced similar difficulties in not being taken seriously regarding Measure C compliance and COM'S responsibility to secure and maintain a safe campus. It's time that we join forces given our common goals, reach out to our larger Marin community and invite them to visit our free website. Please let Friends of Kentfield know your thoughts and keep the faith.
