Bruce Darrell Miller

Bruce Darrell Miller, 74, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, with his wife, Sue Ella, by his side.

He was born on September 21, 1951, at City Hospital in Winston-Salem to Ernest C. Miller and Drusilla G. Miller. Bruce graduated from East Forsyth High School in 1969 and was later drafted in 1971 to serve in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. While in the Army, he worked in the Judge Advocate General (JAG) office, where he developed valuable skills that laid the foundation for a distinguished 40-year career as a real estate paralegal.

Bruce retired from Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice in 2017. In addition to his full-time career, he also owned and operated a used car business for more than a decade.

In July 2000, he married Sue Ella Shellhorn, and together they built a life grounded in love and faith. With God at the center of their journey, they shared many cherished travels and created lasting memories filled with joy, gratitude, and companionship.

Bruce found great joy in spending time on the water, especially boating and fishing at Atlantic Beach, North Carolina. Some of his most treasured moments were spring break trips spent fishing with his grandchildren, creating memories that will be cherished for years to come.

He is survived by his wife, Sue Ella Miller; his daughter, Jennifer Miller O’Ferrell and her husband, Jason O’Ferrell; his three grandchildren, Jameson, Jayden, and Jillian; his stepson, Tony Shellhorn; his brother, Kenneth Miller (Jeanine); and his former spouse, Linda Miller.

Bruce will be remembered as a genuine and kind-hearted man, known for his sense of humor and his quick, witty one-liners.

A funeral service will be held at Edgewood Baptist Church on Saturday, May 2nd at 12:00 p.m. with Pastor Kent Hogan officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff of Trellis Supportive Care for their compassion and care.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Edgewood Baptist Church, 4067 Reidsville Rd, Winston-Salem, NC 27101.
