Betty Jo (BJ) Hutchins Ellender

Ms. Ellender is the Director of Cardiac Rehabilitation at Dosher Memorial Hospital in Southport, NC. She brings
thirty five years of experience to the role with a practice background in critical care and medical surgical nursing; many of her
roles have been in clinical research, education, and management. She comes to Dosher by way of UNCW where
she was the Associate Director of Student Health Services; she also taught in the School of Nursing. Ms. Ellender received
a diploma in nursing from Forsyth Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Winston-Salem, NC, an undergraduate degree
from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, as well as, a Masters of Science in Nursing from there. She is
active in her church, Ocean View United Methodist where she coordinates their Stephen Ministry and serves as President of District 22 of the North Carolina Nurses Association and as a delegate to the American Nurses Association. In addition, Ms. Ellender has served as an elected official, holds a real estate broker’s license, and is mother to three college age sons. Beach time is her favorite past time!
