Sandra Dean Sledge (Allen)

Mrs. Sandra Dean Sledge Allen, 66, passed away unexpectedly at her residence on June 24, 2014. She was born in Rutherford Co., NC on May 11, 1948 to Walter Vance Dean and Lucille Gaddy Dean. She was preceded in death by her father, Walter Vance Dean and her sister, Susan D. Ponds. She graduated from Monroe High School in 1966 and attended UNC-Greensboro receiving her undergraduate degree in Business in 1970. She taught briefly at East Forsyth High School before returning to UNC-Greensboro to receive her Masters Degree in Business Administration. Sandy was a teacher in the Forsyth County area for 30 years working at Forsyth Technical Community College and Reynolds High School teaching business courses. After she retired from teaching, she began a second career working for many years at Sinclair Art Gallery. She had two great loves in her life; she was married for 17 years to her high school sweetheart, Townley Milton Sledge and married 23 years to Marvin Leroy Allen, who passed away in October 2010. Her heart never healed from Marvin’s passing. Sandy had a great love for traveling, Cherry Grove Beach, Diet Pepsi, her daughter Nicki, and celebrating special occasions with her friends and family. She was a firecracker, who always spoke her mind, and will be GREATLY missed. Sandy is survived by her daughter, Sara Nicole “Nicki” Sledge; her mother, Lucille Gaddy Dean; a sister, Shirley Dean Fahey; a brother, Winston J. Dean, and a special four-legged friend Munchie. A Celebration of Life service will be held from 4:00pm until 6:00pm, with reflections by special friends at 4:30pm at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association (www.diabetes.org).
