Congratulations to Dr. Mickey Wade Posted Monday, February 28, 2011 09:23 AM Article from The Free Press Kinston native earns award At the November conference of American Physical Society, Division of Plasma Physics, held in Chicago, Mickey R. Wade, Ph.D., received an award honoring him as an American Physical Society Fellow. The award reads, “For outstanding contributions to burning plasma physics, including helium ash removal, impurity transport and the development of advanced tokamak scenarios.” Wade is one of 10 in the United States chosen for the award. He graduated from Kinston High School in 1981. He received his Bachelor of Science in nuclear engineering from Virginia Tech, his master’s from Georgia Tech in 1987, and his doctorate in nuclear engineering from Georgia Tech in 1991. He is director of Experimental Science Division, D111-D Program, Energy Group with General Atomics in San Diego. He strongly believes in the realization of fusion energy. The son of Bobby and Ella Wade of Kinston, he and his wife, the former Stephanie Harper of Kinston, live in San Diego with their five children. |
