I will miss John. He was one of a kind. His dry humor kept me laughing during play rehearsals and whenever we hung out. I loved both acting with John and watching John act. As I recall, he had a bit of a fan following who came to every show he was in. I understood why: He brought his characters to life better than most.

John was also a good friend. When my brother Chico was not allowed to go on the Drama Club's New York trip one year unless we cleared a field we were working on, John was one of the group who came to our farm one weekend and worked all day to help Chico out so he could go.

When John found out that I collect things about Kinston, he started clipping newspaper articles from the KFP about local historical topics for my collection and would send them to me regularly. I got the last packet from him in April.

I got to see J.B. about once a year when I came home to visit my mom, but hadn't been able to connect this past year. I'm so sorry now we didn't. But I have many fond memories of John to recall. And they still make me laugh.
