Jack sat to my left at the graduation ceremony.  I remember it well.  Jack and I were not buddies in school, as a matter of fact we had practially no interaction at all, so I was surprised to find myself assiged to sit next to him.  He was grateful that we were all getting out of High School and was quite friendly to me.  I was a little floored at this because we didn't mix in the same crowd at all and I thought he would be annoyed to find himself next to me.  But that just wasn't the case.  I think I had misjudged him during our school years.

Riley MacIver and Jay Muller were behind us.  Riley was being rather roudy and Jay kept telling him to pipe down.  Jack and I were amazed at all that rucus in the back.  We were both a bit concerned there was going to be a fist fight behind us if Riley didn't quiet down.

Jack was really not terribly interested in being there, but was grateful I had been to the rehearsal and could guide him on what to do.  If I hadn't been there to hold on to him, I think he would have fallen off the stage when we went up to get our diplomas.

I was very sorry he passed on at such a young age before he had a chance to reach his potential.

He was born on July 16, 1953 and died on February 13, 1977 on Commonweath Aveneue, La Canada.

Ahh Jack Fredricks..

This guy was my best friend. We grew up together , we to kindergarden together. Always best friends. We learned about team mates in sports together . Learned about driving cars and chasing girls together. Jack had a huge heart and always showed kindness towards others. 2 days before Jack died we spent a half hour on the phone 200 miles apart. It was a good bye call, although I did not know it at the time. He was laughing and sounded happy and was planning to start back to school in a few weeks...

Every year since that phone call I call Jack's Brother on Jack's birthday July 6th and we share stories of the " Glory Days". I missed growing up with my best friend. How he would marvel at his niece and newfew Sara and Jake...

Often I think of my best friend...  a few years ago my sister Marilyn joined Jack in the final journey we all must take. Jackie as Marilyn would call him , take good care of Mair..
