I am so sad about Michelle Kaye’s death. She texted me about 2 weeks before her passing, in her battle to fight the cancer. She was bound and determined to overcome it, but unfortunately she did not.
Michelle and I met when my family moved to La Canada in June of 1968. We have remained lifelong friends since then. Not only myself, but my whole family are family to her family.
She was a competitive swimmer growing up and also while attending USC where she graduated with a master’s in education. She loved working with kids in her career as a teacher and school counselor.
She is survived by three sons, Brian, Greg and David of whom she was immensely proud. When we would talk on the phone or get together she loved to tell me about what they were up to.
Michelle, myself, my sister Lisa and Michelle’s sister Gigi were scheduled to go to Europe this summer in a repeat of a trip we took in 1976. Unfortunately, due to Michelle’s illness we had to cancel it.
I will miss her immensely. As my sister Samantha said, she will forever be part of our tapestry.
I was shocked and saddened to hear the news about Michelle. My thoughts are with her family during this difficult time. I only lived in La Canada for 3 years, Toni and Michelle were two of my closest friends. Since my parents moved after I graduated, it was hard to keep in close touch. Later, it was Michelle that I saw the most but feel bad now that I didn't make more of an effort over the years. I have had plenty of loss in my friends and family lately, so my advice to everyone is " grab your people and tell them you love them".
