In Memory

Rick Parks

The following was shared by Debbie Foss:

Rick Parks was an uplifting and talented artist. I used to ski with him as a kid, and kept in touch with him through my 20s, when he moved to Las Vegas to paint murals. After that I lost touch.

I recently looked him up on the internet and found that he became an extremely well-known video game artist and developer. He worked for a company called the Westwood Group, and has a game dedicated to him called Lands of Lore 2. You can access a video by looking him up on YouTube. There is a memorial there that is very moving. He was only 46 when he died, which may or may not be accurate. People at Westwood said that he died of Leukemia.

If anyone knows if his parents are still alive I would like very much to get in touch with them. Thanks.

Hi Debbie,

You're right, Rick was an incredible artist. We lost touch after high school although I saw him a few times in Las Vegas. I'm still very close with a mutual friend, Ken Marschall who is a maritime artist and Titanic histortian. I've known Rick's parents for years, although we haven't kept in touch. Several years ago they moved from La Canada to Balboa Island where they currently reside. The last time I saw them was at Rick's memorial. They were in good health, still traveling and skiing. I don't have a phone number or other contact information. Hope this gives you a good lead.
