Rick Fitzpatrick

Dr. Richard "Rick" J. Fitzpatrick, D.O., died November 14, 2004, in his home in Pewaukee, WI.

He was born March 24, 1948 to Merle and Betty Fitzpatrick in La Crosse.

He proudly obtained the rank of Eagle Scout at the record age of 12.  He was a 1970 graduate of UW-La Crosse.  He obtained his Doctor of Osteopathy degree from Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1977, completed a residency in Internal Medicine and was Board Certified in Emergency Medicine. He also earned the designation of Diplomate of the American Board of Forensic Examiners.  Rick practiced medicine and helped thousands of patients in West Virginia, Maine, La Crosse and the Milwaukee area.  Rick married the love of his life and dedicated confidant, Carol Grudichak in 1976.  While proud to be able to help the sick, he was most proud of his two sons, Kevin in Chicago, and Sean in Milwaukee.

In the late 1990's, he was devastated by physical injuries which subsequently prevented him from continuing to practice emergency medicine and treating patients.  Despite painful and disabling injuries, Rick pursued a legal career and graduated from Marquette Law School in 2004.

In addition to his sons and Carol, he is survived by his mother, Betty Fitzpatrick; three brothers, Tom, Ken and Ron (Patty), all of La Crosse; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Merle "Fitz" Fitzpatrick.

Memorials may be given to Aquinas High School Foundation or Franciscan Skemp Foundation, where Rick previously practiced medicine. A private family service was held.  He is buried at La Crosse Catholic Cemetery.
