Michael Paul Weigel, 51, of 9126 Austin Ridge Lane, Charlotte, N.C., died at home on November 27, 1999 following heart surgery. Mike was born in La Crosse to Dorothy (La Vaque) and Paul Weigel on June 13, 1948. Mike is survived by his bride of 28 years, Pat (Latimer); his daughter, Ellen Marie (John) Wofford and his son Kevin Michael, all of Charlotte. He is also survived by his dear mother and stepfather, Dorothy and Alvin Kelsey; his sisters, Jane (Jim) McArdle of Carmichael, CA; and Pauline Connell of La Crosse. His dad, Paul, preceded him in death in 1970. Michael will be remembered by all who knew him as a genuine friend, a hard worker, and most especially as a devoted husband and father.
Mike graduated from St. Mary's University in Winona in 1970. He worked as a salesman for WKTY, WKBT-TV and WXOW-TV in La Crosse for 19 years. He then served for a time as cable coordinator at FSH Medical Center in La Crosse. This past May Michael took a position with the Home Depot Corp in Charlotte, N.C. He was deeply involved with community events and dedicated to his parishes, St. Patrick's and St. Joseph the Workman Cathedral. He gave tirelessly to others and brought joy to all he met.
It was impossible to go anywhere in La Crosse with Mike without bumping into someone who was glad to see him. Mike was the quintessential friend and family man; upright, loyal, fun-loving and always positive. Although the void left in our hearts at his passing will never be filled, the joy he brought us in his time on Earth will never be forgotten. Mike will be missed for an achingly long time, but he will be loved forever.
