Just thinking today about our classmates who have past, and Larry especially.  He was a most skilled and talented pianist, and quite an interesting person.  He practiced piano all the time and became quite accomplished at his craft.  In the late 1960's, my mother, Harriet, was working at UW-LaCrosse, and met Larry's father who started working there when the Althaus's s first moved town.  Larry didn't know anyone, so Larry's dad had my mom set up a meeting for me with Larry one afternoon.  I remember walking into their house on State St. near campus and meeting Larry.  We sat in their living room and talked for a long time, and I think I became his "first friend" in LaCrosse that day.  He gradually became part of the larger school community, and although he and I remained friends, I didn't really get that much closer to him.  I wonder if anyone else in the class has thoughts about Larry and what his life meant to them.

As our 50th Reunion Planning Committee works on plans for this coming September, one of their ideas is to have a special table (maybe tables!?) set up for us to remember those who have passed since graduation so long ago now, or so it seems.  It might be very cool to really honor these folks with special mementos and stories about them, eh?

What a lovely story, Bob. I remember Larry as an excellent musician and a good soul. He was always friendly to me and gave a lot of his talents to all. Such a shame that he died so early, as many of our classmates did.
