
Darrell Subera, 25, of 3408 Robinsdale Ave., died Saturday, September 28, 1974 from an apparent cerebral hemorrhage in a local hospital after becoming ill while hunting Saturday morning.
He was a radio operator with the La Crosse Traffic Police since December 20, 1971.
Subera was hunting with his father-in-law, Robert Driscoll of La Crosse, north of the city Saturday morning when he complained of a head ache. They started toward La Crosse and stopped north of Onalaska to get some aspirin and water. Subera went to the restroom and collapsed. The Onalaska Police Department took him to St. Francis hospital. He was transferred to Lutheran Hospital Intensive Care Unit and died at 10:45 p.m. Saturday.
Subera was a 1968 graduate of Central High School. He was married in 1972 and his widow, Patricia, is expecting their first child soon.
He was a veteran of two years in Vietnam. He served with the 2nd Battalion, 32nd Field Artillery Group, and belonged to the Army Reserves, Company C, 389th Engineers.
He was born in La Crosse, July 23, 1949, to Mr. and Mrs. Martin Subera, 2852 Brook Court. Other survivors include one sister, Mrs. Robert (Suzette) Olson of Owatonna, Minn.; two brothers, Steven and Scott, both at home; paternal grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Carl Subera of Hillsboro; and his paternal great-grandmother, Mrs. Tillie Subera of Hillsboro.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church. Rev. Gerhard Albrecht will officiate. Burial will be in Mormon Coulee Memorial Park. Friends may call at the Schumacher Funeral Home today from 3 to 5 p.m. and at the church Tuesday from noon until time of services.
