Scott Hutchings

Edward Scott Hutchings, 63, of Wisconsin Dells passed away Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014.

Scott, as everyone called him, was born Feb. 21, 1950, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Edward A. and Lyla M. Hutchings. He came to La Crosse with his family in 1956 and graduated from Central High School in 1968. He continued his education at UW-La Crosse and Western Wisconsin Technical College.

His early jobs in La Crosse were teaching organ lessons at Leithhold Music, and in 1970, Scott became the head of the color film processing department at WKBT-TV, where he also served as video camera man in the news department when the station went to video tape. When the station changed ownership, Scott then started his own home-improvement business, and later was a partner in a West Salem restaurant. In 2000, he moved to Wisconsin Dells, where he then became part of the family-owned private school, Madison Media Institute, from which he retired in 2007.

In his spare time, Scott loved cooking, gardening, fishing and working with tools.

Survivors include his parents, Edward A. and Lyla M. Hutchings of Lake Delton, Wis.; a son, Brian (Jessica) Hutchings of Milwaukee; a sister, Shelley R. (Jeff) Hertz of Wausau, Wis.; two brothers, Steven W. (Julia) Hutchings of Deforest, and Christopher K. (Anna) Hutchings of Marco Island, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.

Private memorial services will be held at Rago-Baldwin Funeral Home, 520 East St., in Baraboo. Memorials in memory of Scott may be given to the Sauk County Humane Society.
