Joseph Lee Simmons age 49, of LaFayette, Georgia passed away Sunday – July 10, 2016. He was born in Trion, Georgia and had resided most of his life in LaFayette. He graduated from LaFayette High School Class of 1985. He was a former employee with Snow’s Nursery in Rock Spring, GA and Karastan Carpets of Laurinburg, North Carolina. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Marine Corps where he was a veteran of Desert Storm. He earned his rank as Corporal and received a performance commendation during his service in Desert Storm. He was a member of LaFayette Church of Christ, American Legion Post 298 and the Trion Masonic Lodge F&AM #160 where he was a Master Mason. He enjoyed drawing landscapes, cartoons and other art. He loved animals, especially his cat; “Roscoe” and enjoyed rescuing dogs and cats to find homes for them. Joe also enjoyed trout fishing, but most of all, he loved his family. He is preceded in death by his brother: James Nelson Simmons and grandparents: Lincoln Davis Pless, Drue Laban and Elsie Simmons. He is survived by his parents: Glenda Pless Simmons (James W.) Patton of LaFayette, GA, Fred Nelson (Sharon) Simmons of Summerville, GA, brother: Michael Davis (Kimberly) Simmons of Jackson, Mississippi, grandmother: Elsie Cooper of Trion, GA, nieces and nephew: Ella Jane, Davis and Sydney Simmons of Jackson, Mississippi. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm and Thursday morning prior to the service. Funeral services will be held at 12:30 pm - Thursday – July 13, 2016 in the chapel with Minister David Paden, Jr. Burial will follow at Chattanooga Veterans National Cemetery.
