Eric John Martin, age 27, of Olympia, Wash., departed this world May 20, 2003. He was a 1994 graduate of Timberline High School. He graduated from Western Washington University in 1999 with a degree in Environmental Policy and Planning with a minor in Geology. Eric was a regular contributor to the Western Washington University alumni. He was employed with the Department of Transportation at the Mats Lab as a Transportation Tech III.In high school, Eric was a 3-year letterman in wrestling. He loved the sport and one day hoped to coach. He enjoyed fishing, clamming, and crabbing at the ocean with family and friends. His love, though, was extreme snowboarding. Since age 8, when he caught the skiing bug, his priorities have been to be on the snow.Eric had a smile you couldn't help but love, and a personality to go with it. He was the king of quick comebacks and knew how to make people laugh. He was a modest individual and without hesitation was there if you needed anything.A memorial gathering will be held at 1:00 p.m. (although people are more than welcome to come earlier) on Wednesday, May 28th, at the DeVol residence, located at 5209 Deerfield Park Court N.E., Olympia. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your favorite charity.Eric leaves behind his father, John Martin, of Lacey, Wash.; mother, Janice Gooch, of Jacksonville, Florida; grandmother, Joanne Martin, of Spokane, Wash.; grandparents, Garry and Judy Martin, in Sun City, Ariz.; grandparents, Gilbert and Lavonne Nuessen, of Burlington, Wash.; and great-grandfather, Burgin Kerlee, of Kent, Wash.. Eric also leaves behind many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends whom he loved. As in a quote from Eric's favorite band, "So long, farewell, goodbye." Eric, you are in our prayers, in our memories, and in our hearts. We love you.
