Stephen Franklin Coons was born on October 20, 1944 in Waukegan, Illinois, to Max and Marjorie Coons. He was proud to defend the country as a Marine for 4 years, was successful in the insurance industry for 22 years, and served the Presbyterian Church (USA) as Executive Director of Westminster Woods Camp and Conference center in Occidental, CA for 9 years. He also worked for Covenant Presbyterian Insurance Program until his retirement in 2008.
Steve was most proud of his marriage to Ann, raising his two children, Cherie and Jim, being father-in-law to Emily Coons and Dave Miller, and being Grandpa Steve to Julia, Jakob, Eliza Kate, Aubrie, and Travis. He loved the outdoors-especially fly fishing with his family and good friends. He could always be found laughing, telling stories, and loving others. He was a member and lay leader in several churches throughout his life, but most recently at Bidwell Presbyterian Church in Chico.
