Robert John Mussano
Oct. 29,1943 -April 23, 2022
Lafayette
It is with extreme sadness we announce the passing of Robert John Mussano. He died
early morning April 23, 2022.
Robert (known as Bob to his friends and affectionately as Uncle Butt to his family) is
predeceased by his parents, Louis and Rose Mussano, brother Louis Mussano, niece
Cynthia Guldner, nephew Rick Mussano and his beloved dog Zoe.
Bob was born in Oakland California. During his teenage years the family moved to
Lafayette where he resided the rest of his life. He attended Stanley Jr. High and
graduated from Acalanes High school in 1962. He enlisted in the Marine Corp. in 1963
where he served as a Fire and Rescue officer and was honorably discharged receiving
the National Defense Medal after he suffered an eye injury in 1966.
Bob joined the Lafayette Fire District in 1967 where he helped countless people. He
found his profession extremely rewarding and built strong and lasting relationships.
He retired in 1992.
Bob had many hobbies, such as fishing, hunting, goldmining, golfing, and gardening.
He proudly shared the fruits of his labor with those he loved. He also enjoyed cooking
and was famous for his “stinky cheese”. Mostly, Bob loved being with friends and
family, savoring food and having a “pop” while sharing stories. He was a member of
the Oakland Columbo Club, Fratellanza Club, American Legion, Sons of Italy, Native
Sons of the Golden West, National Rifleman’s Association, Lion’s Club, Audubon
Society, National Wildlife Federation, and the Sierra Club. He donated to many
charitable organizations.
Bob appreciated life and lived it to his fullest and will be missed tremendously.
