Though Brian was never one for school reunions, I wanted to let you know that he passed away in mid April, 2020, just a month after we all went into lock down in the early days of Covid. He had been diagnosed with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis since 2014.
From high school through adulthood, we all certainly change a great deal, and Brian led a seemingly charmed life, going to SJSU after working for a number of years, and becoming a dealer in Antique Armour, Scientific Instruments, Nautical History, dating from the Roman period through the 18th century. That's when I met him - 1977. We brought this specialty into the mainstream antique world, and because of its uniqueness, were able to exhibit and sell in the best shows in the US, and in London.
In 1990 we moved to Ananda Village, and Brian essentially retired and became a school teacher - the type that movies are made about. He brought his strengths of talent and character into his teaching, including leading an honors program in classic car restoration, most heavily populated by females. Unfortunately, his website focusing on the cars - More Than the Car - has recently expired. Their prize restorations were a '57 Bugeye Sprite, and a '57 Isetta Cabriolet, and a horse carriage transferred to an electric golf cart chassis. They also had an acoustic (plus keyboard) Band including music from Woody Gutherie through Peter Paul and Mary, and into the age of the 70's and beyond. He guided his students on fundraising, using Ebay to raise enough money to take school trips to England, India, and the east coast. He was a consummate Marketer and webmaster, mentor, comedian, and brought the courtesy of Hop A Long Cassidy (one of his heros) and so many skills of his generation, into the new generations who's lives he touched so profoundly.
Brian survived the IPF disease for a long time, and many have attributed it to his continuous positive attitude. He was an amazing example of how to meet the challenges of life. He was my best friend for 43 years, and husband for 40, being 11 years my senior. The world has lost a gem of a human being, whose heart and spirit grew immensely in this lifetime. He entered the world of meditation and yoga philosophy while in his 30's, which added meaning and richness to his life. He is still loved dearly by so many friends and students.
