TWO KILLED AS NAVY JET CRASHES NEAR MCCORD
A ball of flame, smoke and debris mushroomed skyward two miles north of McCord Air Force Base Sunday evening when a Navy A6 light bomber crashed on takeoff, killing the two pilots aboard.
The victims were identified by the Navy Monday morning as Lt. David W Driver, 26, of Marcellus, New York and Lt. (jg.) Stephen Spurlock, 24, of Lafayette, California. A spokesman said both men were bachelors.
Witness gave varying accounts as to what happened when the plane went down. .... No one on the ground was injured.
