Judy Stone

Luanne BUCHANAN Langmo

Judy was born Judith Ann Stone  11/11/1944 in Los Angeles.  She was so full of enthusiasm and positive thoughts.  She was a cheerleader in the 8th grade at Stanley, studied the bible, taught children to swim and was my BFF for a long time.  I talked with her right before she died and her Dr. said she had to stay home because she had "walking pneumonia" so she was walking around the house.  She had a kind word for everyone, had a great sense of humor and a sweet disposition.  She died 10/10/1958 when we were just starting our Freshman year.  Her death effected me for all of my years - could I even match up to what she was or would have been?  Certainly a life lost too soon.

Judy's death also affected me deeply - the first of someone my own age. She had been kind and welcoming to me when I came as someone new to the area and to Stanley. I think she lived relatively near me. I remember her beautiful, thick, waist length blond hair! I went to her visitation time - also a first. As I recall I walked alone down a long aisle in a church to her open casket. I was horrified to see that they had cut her hair, hoping it would help her combat her "walking pneumonia". Wikipedia says that the term was coined to indicate a type of pneumonia that was hard to diagnose as it presents with atypical symptoms. How I wish they had diagnosed it more quickly!

Thanks to Gary Miller '61 for obtaining this in the history room at the Lafayette Library.
