In Memory

Jim Crane

Jim Crane was one of my best friends since Gorton School. He would ride me on the back of his bike to Sunday school, never minding that this was the late 50s, early 60s when racial tension was at it's highest. He contacted me right after the reunion and asked me to come see him in his barbershop quartet, which I did. I am so grateful to God for giving me that opportunity to see my old friend, one last time.

Jim had been suffering with stage-4 cancer - he passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2013.

I have wonderful memories of playing with Jim in his band throughout high school.  Although our sounds were somewhat 'retro" at the time- dixieland, big band sounds, blues- we had a blast.  My sister Wendy played the bass in the group and we delighted in the various venues that Jim would arrange- a boat cruise on Lake Geneva to a Polka Hall in North Chicago.  I am so sad we won't be able to play together again, at least on Earth.   "Swing low sweet chariot....."
