I was saddened to learn of the death of Paul Lawrence "Larry" Svendsen. He passed away on March 12, 2021.
We attended Lake Bluff schools. His father coached us in little league. He taught me how to throw a fast ball. Like his parents, Larry loved Chicago Cubs baseball. Hey, hey, whadda ya say, Cubs are gonna win today.
Here is an obituary that was published by the funeral home:
GRAYSLAKE - Paul "Larry" Svendsen, 72, passed away on March 12, 2021. Larry was born on May 24, 1948, in Highland Park, Illinois, and was predeceased by his father, Paul Svendsen; mother, Laura Soprani Svendsen; and his wife, Gail M. Svendsen. He is survived by children, Matthew Svendsen (wife, Jen and children, Nathan and Jakob), Kristen Svendsen and Andrew Svendsen; sister, Joan (husband, Jesse and nephews, Dan and Jay Gutierrez); and brother, Steve (wife, Gill and niece, Sara Svendsen). Larry graduated from Drake University and was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. After college, Larry went on to serve as a Senior Vice President at the Bank of Waukegan, where he worked for more than 30 years. Larry was passionate about music and sports and was a lifelong Cubs fan. Larry's family meant more to him than anything. He was a proud and devoted father and grandfather and will be incredibly missed. Private funeral services were held by McMurrough Funeral Chapel, 847-362-2626. Please sign the guestbook at libertyvillefuneralhome.com.

The annual visit to the Svendsen's basement to pick out team baseball uniform was a sure sign spring had arrived. Larry's dad was a fixture in the coaching ranks and we always appreciated his enthusiasm. Larry was a good player at baseball and basketball I recall. A flood of fond memories accompany this sad news!!!

Larry and I reconnected by Facebook. Larry and I were Chicago Bears fans. We'd have fun "trash-talking" Gail Allen Julius who was a Packer fan. Somehow the Fall football season won't be the same without him. What a great guy! My condolences to his family and extended family.
