Most people knew him as 'Larry Costine'. We grew up riding horses together and his death was and is still a mystery.

Larry was a buddy from elementary. A rascal and a tough cowboy. Lost touch after junior high.

He was part of the infamous vegetable fight on the school bus on the way home from Crystal Lake JH (free for all of thrown raddishes, cukes, green onions, etc. on the day all the Ag class guys harvested their produce for take home in plastic bags). He and Gary Murphy were the first to RAZZ me after being witnesses to my first kiss in 7th grade just before getting on the bus home on another day. I was in a daze going down the bus aisle, wondering what just happened. The victim's girlfriend had set it up and she virtually shoved our heads together for the clumsy peck. I was clueless (working on mysteries without any clues) and he knew it, but his publicity made me feel like a rock star.

Please share your good memories about Larry. I know there must be some great ones.

I went to school with Larry from Combee elem to LHS. I have only one clear memory - On the first day of the 3rd grade the students had to line up outside on the sidewalk. I remember that Larry was right in front of me. Even back then he wore his "poop"kickers, all pointy-toed and black. I remember him, standing in line ahead of me, talking when we weren't supposed to; turning around (& buggin me) when we weren't supposed to; cutting up in general, when we weren't "supposed to"! If you told Larry what he was "supposed" to do (at least back in the 2nd grade), to "not look over there" - OVER "THERE" is the FIRST place Larry would look! I always secretly admired his rebellious nature. (G)

One day Larry gave me a note and asked if I would "check the box" on whether we could be boyfriend/girlfriend. Unfortunately, I was already "taken"...by Chris Von Luie. LOL

I remember Larry always pinching the back of the arm and it stung like h_ll. We used to sneak up on each other and pinch the arm. Even through Larry came across as the tough guy bully type we got along real good as friends in school.

Oh my heavens, I can't believe that Larry is gone. I went to school with him at Combee, Crystal Lake, and LHS. He was the reason that I got my first paddling in school. We were in Mrs. Morrow's class in 5th grade. I had long hair, and he kept pulling it out one strand at a time. I told on him, but it didn't stop him with just a verbal warning from the teacher to stop. I told him if he did it again he would regret it, and of course he did it again. When he got up out of his seat to sharpen his pencil, I stuck my foot out and tripped him. He cut his chin on the desk in front of us, so I got in big trouble. Years later in LHS we were able to laugh about it. We actually became friends because the FFA buddies he had were friends of my brother. I will miss you MEANNESS.
